Dear VRC members,
I thought it was important to update you all on what is a very confronting and fluid situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is an unprecedented situation, which has impacted every person across the racing industry - owners, trainers, jockeys, all service providers, VRC staff and of course you, our members.
The VRC team is closely monitoring the situation, particularly with regard to Government and health expert directives. This will be important in making decisions for our upcoming ANZAC Day Race Day, National Hall of Fame Race Day and National Jockeys Trust Race Day. The Club supports the Government’s decision around mass gatherings of more than 500 people, and we will adapt our approach should this ban extend beyond 13 April 2020.
Further to this, the Club supports Racing Victoria’s response to COVID-19 and will adhere to all precautions taken.
We are looking at all avenues of how to continue racing at Flemington during these unprecedented times. The priorities are the safety and wellbeing of all industry participants, members, community and staff, as well as our responsibility to support the 25,000 full-time jobs that Victorian racing underpins.
Please be aware the VRC offices and Flemington Racecourse are currently closed to visitors until further notice and much of our business is operating remotely. We are also working to set up an information hub on our website, which we’ll update regularly as new information comes to hand.
I appreciate that some of you may have queries regarding your membership, dining packages and upcoming events. We will continue to communicate and engage with you regularly, and I sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during these uncertain times.
Our members are at the heart of our Club. If we have to run race days without you, it will be difficult for all of us. However, I am confident that with our industry and our partners, we will withstand this challenge, and very much look forward to welcoming everyone back to Flemington as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support of the Club, and please take care of yourself, family and friends.
