A signed Melbourne Cup Carnival saddlecloth is a unique piece of sporting memorabilia and commemorates an incredible race, horse and rider. Every Melbourne Cup Carnival the Victoria Racing Club auctions off the signed saddlecloths worn by our equine athletes, with all proceeds going to the National Jockeys Trust.
Saddlecloths from the four key races, the AAMI Victoria Derby
, Lexus Melbourne Cup
, Kennedy Oaks
and Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes
are signed by the race day jockey and authenticated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Victoria Racing Club before being put to auction.
Whether you’re an owner or trainer of a horse, a racing enthusiast or a collector, it’s a once in a life time opportunity to purchase a special piece of sporting history from the most prestigious racing event in the world.
Among the sixty-nine saddlecloths up for auction will be Lexus Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare’s, signed by jockey Craig Williams to mark the all-Australian win. As well as the saddlecloths of popular second-place getter and 2019 Geelong Cup winner Prince Of Arran (GB), sixth-placed 2019 Caulfield Cup Winner Mer De Glace (JPN) and eight-placed 2018 Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter (GB).
Also up for auction will be AAMI Victoria Derby winner Warning’s saddlecloth, signed by Damien Oliver on the day he made history and broke the record for the most number of Flemington wins for a jockey at Melbourne Cup Week.
The saddlecloths of Kennedy Oaks winner Miami Bound (NZ), Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes winner Magic Wand (IRE) and third-place getter Hartnell (GB) from his swansong race, will also be up for auction.
Each year the proceeds from the saddlecloth auctions are donated to the National Jockeys Trust and in season 2018/19 the VRC donated almost $60,000 to the charity, a portion of which were proceeds from the Lexus Melbourne Cup saddlecloth auction.
The auction is now open and lots will close from 1.00pm AEDT on Monday 16th of December.
