This week we checked in on our bee colony to see how they are coping with winter in their new home at Flemington.
A lack of flowers and therefore pollen around Melbourne in winter means we need to supplement their diets so beekeeper Colin sprinkled white sugar into two of our four hives to ensure the bees get the sustenance they need to make it to the spring.
Unfortunately we had some sad news with one of our hive’s losing their queen bee but luckily Colin had another one at home that was able to move in and keep the hive alive and functioning well.
We can’t wait to see what they produce in spring once the Flemington roses start to bloom!
