A sensational day of Group 1 racing, Asian fare and a special appearance by the mighty mare, Black Caviar.
Group 1 racing returns to Flemington this Saturday 15th February for Black Caviar, The Great Horse Race Day and there’s plenty of excitement on and off the track.
The wonder mare herself, Black Caviar, will be on course to take a lap of honour in the Mounting Yard, the scene of so many of her remarkable victories. Plus there’s a hawker-style food market, an outdoor silent cinema, and Chef and TV personality Diana Chan is taking over The Terrace Restaurant.
Black Caviar is Back
The legendary mare whose stellar career consisted of 25 undefeated races is returning to Flemington to parade in the Mounting Yard prior to the race named in her honour. Black Caviar captured hearts across the world during her racing career which spanned from 2009 – 2013. Her historic unbeaten record of 25 wins from 25 starts included eight memorable wins at Flemington as well as the nail-biting international victory at Royal Ascot where she took on the world and had fans on the edge of their seats. That victory solidified her status as the world’s best sprinter.
On the Track
As one of the best race days of the year, they’ll be plenty of excitement on the track. The Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes will be the highlight of the day. Witness star sprinters battle it out in a strong field, with Group 1 winners Redzel, Nature Strip and Loving Gaby currently nominated.
Returning to the Breezeway and Front Lawn, the Hawker Market will feature some of Melbourne’s favourite Asian restaurants along with themed entertainment. Indulge in cheeseburger spring rolls, Japanese Cheesecake, Singaporean chilli crab jaffles, bubble tea, Yum Cha and more. Peek into your future with tea leaf readings, take a pic with our giant noodle box or showcase your gaming skills. Your race day ticket will give you access to all the festivities.
Guest Chef Diana Chan
Chef, author and TV personality Diana Chan will join us in The Terrace Restaurant, a premium dining room with uninterrupted views of the Winning Post. The Malaysian-born chef will bring her signature style to Flemington as she designs a menu that is inspired by her travels.
