The forecast is looking fantastic and we’re pumped for the biggest raceday at Flemington Racecourse since the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Indulge in delicious food from Melbourne’s hottest restaurants, sips from boutique breweries and vineyards, tempting cheese and ‘grammable desserts plus loads of live music in the Super Garden Party. They’ll be plenty of excitement on the track with Australia’s best horses competing in a thrilling race program featuring the TAB Australian Cup (2000m) and Seppelt Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Action on the Track
Flemington hosts Victoria's premier autumn raceday this Saturday, headlined by the $1.5 million Group 1 TAB Australian Cup (2000m). A very solid favourite for the race is Avilius (Hugh Bowman). Trainer James Cummings is looking for his first win in this race with Avilius, after James' famous grandfather Bart won 13 editions of the Australian Cup. Interestingly this race will see 2017 Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling return to the track, which adds an element of surprise to an already great race.
The other feature on Super Saturday is the time-honoured $1.25 million Group 1 Seppelt Wines Newmarket Handicap (1200m). Colloquially known as the Melbourne Cup for sprinters, the race will see one of the biggest fields in some time with a remarkable 22 sprinters set to line up. Redkirk Warrior (Luke Nolen) will carry the number one saddlecloth as he attempts to create history by winning the race three years in a row.
Between Race 1 and Race 2, All-Star Mile contender and one of Australia's best mares Alizee will step out on track for an exhibition gallop with Hugh Bowman on board.
Super Garden Party
Drink, eat and play at the all new Super Garden Party. The leafy greenery of The Elms will be bursting with a lively and playful party, as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Best of all, admission to the Super Garden Party is free with your Super Saturday raceday ticket!
Chef Charlie Carrington will bring delicious Mexican and vegetarian fare from Atlas Dining and Colours Bowls. The team behind Dexter will dish up grilled meat treats from their Cheek pop-up. Plus, Melbourne hot spot Pontoon will bring their unique seaside flavours including a crispy fish taco with chipotle salsa. A Cheesy Ending will be offering up a tempting array of cheeses and our Sweet Dreams pop-up is serving up delectable desserts from Millstone Patisserie and Glacé.
Sip on locally brewed craft beers at the Hop Harvest Bar, boutique wines at the Grapevine Bar and botanical-inspired cocktails in Cocktail Quarter.
Relax in the boho-chic outdoor lounge or dance the afternoon away to the energetic live music on The Elms stage, featuring the spontaneous vibrant energy of Nicky Bomba, from the John Butler Trio, and the Super Ska Band.
