2016 Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador, Stephanie Claire Smith
Like the Harbour Bridge is to Sydney, Flemington Racecourse is to Melbourne. But even much loved icons can be tweaked for the better - and that’s what racegoers will enjoy at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
This carnival, enjoy a new playground at Flemington known as The Park. It’s a sprawling new social space, spanning 10,000 square metres - more than half the size of the MCG.
Finding it is easy. Simply take the train to Flemington Racecourse and then head up the hill through a trail of oversized rose sculptures to the large hedge archway with a sign reading “The Park.”
With fashion, fine dining, DJs, live music and even a Ferris wheel, The Park is likely to be one of the hottest places to hang this Carnival.
Here’s our insider’s guide on where to be part of the scene at The Park.
Tipped to be one of the coolest places to be seen this Spring, Pony Bar is the perfect place to go for music, light meals, and all your favourite tipples. Better still - given Melbourne’s temperamental Spring weather - the large bar is undercover with indoor tables.
Ferris @ Flemington
Hark back to earlier times with a beautifully decorated old-fashioned Ferris wheel. Could there be a better place to watch the buzz of Flemington in Spring? From the heights of the wheel you can see all the action of The Park, including live music, Myer Fashions on the Field and of course all the fashion and frivolity that makes Flemington so special.
Myer Fashions on the Field
The Park is the new home of Myer Fashions on the Field, making it the fashion capital of Flemington. Racegoers can get up close to watch the finest dressed ladies and spruced up men strut their stuff on centre stage. Better still, the best views of the fashionistas are from the Pony Bar, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the show while sipping your favourite cocktail.
So many drinks so little time
The Pony is by no means the only option for a drink in The Park. Check out the Absolut Cocktail Caravan Park for cocktails, both new or old-fashioned, or the Yellowglen Terrace for a glass of bubbles. If that’s sounding too girly for your tastes you could try the James Boag’s Premium Container Bar for an ice cold beer.
Food glorious food
Because we all know too many drinks and not enough food can turn Elegant Elena into Shattered Sheryl, food is in abundance at The Park. Whether it be the sweetness of doughnuts, fairy floss or gelato; or perhaps you want a burger or a lobster roll, or maybe just a great coffee, the hippest food providers in Melbourne are setting up shop at The Park.
Freshen up at the L’Oréal Paris Powder Room
There are times a lady needs to freshen up and The Park has that covered with the L’Oréal Paris Powder Room. Make-up experts will freshen up your cheeks, lips, eyes and hair, so you look on point for The Park.
There is so much to do at The Park. Share it all with friends and look out for Melbourne’s most famous Instagrammers!
