Second shipment enters quarantine

Reigning Lexus Melbourne Cup winner Twilight Payment was one of three horses who joined Spanish Mission in quarantine on Friday ahead of their scheduled Melbourne arrival on October 9.

Twilight Payment, Away He Goes and Sir Lucan commenced quarantine for the second spring shipment, with Joseph O'Brien's Twilight Payment completing his pre-export period in Ireland while Away He Goes and Sir Lucan are based alongside Spanish Mission at Newmarket.

Spanish Mission is spending a further fortnight in quarantine after leading British trainer Andrew Balding elected not to send his stayer on the first shipment of International horses after he suffered muscle spasms in his flanks.

The first shipment of International horses was due to arrive in Melbourne later on Saturday, carrying Cox Plate contenders Gold Trip and State Of Rest.

Gold Trip, who will join last year's Cox Plate hero Sir Dragonet in the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable, is currently the $10 third favourite for Australasia's weight-for-age championship.

State Of Rest, a last-start winner of the Group 1 Saratoga Derby (1900m) in New York last month for O'Brien, is rated a $15 chance.

After completing their mandatory two-week post-arrival quarantine in Werribee, the pair will undergo a standing CT scan at the nearby U-Vet Equine Centre before being granted final approval to race in the Cox Plate on Saturday, October 23 at The Valley.
