Following confirmation from Racing Victoria that Victorian race meetings will be closed to spectators until at least 11:59pm (AEST) on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) can confirm that the VRC Season Premiere Race Day on 7 August 2021 will proceed without patrons.
The race day will go ahead under the same, strict COVID-safe protocols that were in place throughout 2020, with the racecourse closed to all but racing industry participants and essential staff, ensuring the ongoing biosecurity of our sport so that racing can continue. All racing participants and essential staff on course will be required to wear a face mask at all times.
The VRC sincerely thanks its members for their patience and understanding. We are working closely with Government and health authorities to ensure the return of crowds for our spring feature race days, starting with Sofitel Girls Day Out on Saturday 11 September 2021.
We hope racing fans will again tune in from home next Saturday to take in the nine-race card from headquarters including the Group 3 Aurie's Star Handicap, a renowned starting point for springtime’s stars.
For VRC members please look out for our regular Race Day Communiqué next Thursday, featuring TAB’s Nick Quinn’s tips and racing previews, plenty of exciting racing news to enjoy from home, plus there will be more great prizes on offer in our VRC Member Stakes – members can register at flemington.com.au/club-membership/vrc-member-stakes.
Members will receive their digital racebook via the Race Day Communiqué, and it will be available for download on the VRC Season Premiere Race Day page at Flemington.com.au from next Thursday.
We look forward to welcoming back patrons for Sofitel Girls Day Out, and are working with the Victorian Government on our COVID-safe planning for the event – the first race at Headquarters for the spring.
