The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will honour and celebrate the skill and bravery of jockeys on
National Jockeys Trust Race (NJT) Day, this Saturday 22 May at Flemington Racecourse.
The NJT will host a sold-out luncheon in the VRC Committee Room to raise funds through
ticket sales and a silent auction, all in aid of injured jockeys and their families or those who
have lost loved ones on Australian racetracks.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said National Jockeys Trust Race Day was a
special day on the Flemington calendar.
“The VRC is proud to support the National Jockeys Trust at Flemington,” Mr Rosich said.
“The day provides the trust with an important opportunity for fundraising as well as allowing
family, friends and the wider racing industry to come together to remember those jockeys lost
on Australian racetracks.”
The feature race on the day is the Listed Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m) which has
attracted a full field of 16 including last year’s winner Great Again, South Australian visitor
Streetcar Stranger and the James Cummings-trained favourite Pandemic.
Other highlights on the nine-race card include the Racing.com Plate (1400m), a two-year-old
race that produced Group 1 winner Zoutori in 2018 and Group 1 winners Aloisia and Grunt in
2017. This year the favourite is Lina’s Legend for Danny O’Brien and Jamie Kah.
Saturday will also mark the first Flemington appearance of former racetrack star Apache Cat
who has successfully undergone treatment for cancer. He will visit Flemington from Living
Legends alongside Silent Witness.
Racegoers can appreciate the horses and riders on track from inside one of Flemington’s
warm venues including The Peak which will host a sold-out Punters Club event for members
or Saintly Place where The Lounge has been established, featuring foosball tables and pub
fare all in front of the famous Flemington winning post.
The first of two Wine and Dine Series will be held for members in The Byerley, featuring a
six course degustation with perfectly paired wines from Wynns Winery.
A digital race book will be available here later this week and VRC members,
owners and all racing fans are encouraged to follow the race day via broadcast partners RSN,
Racing.com and Channel 7 and via VRC social media platforms with the hashtag
Gates open at 11:00am with Race 1 at 11:45am. For more information or to purchase tickets
