VRC amends race times for the Summer Racing Twilight Series

Following the conclusion of Saturday’s Chester Manifold Stakes Race Day, the second race day in our Flemington Presents: Summer Racing Twilight Series, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) received feedback from Racing Victoria stewards on behalf of the jockeys that sun glare was an issue in the straight during Race 9, the Kennedy Sprint at 7:05pm, the last race on the card.

VRC EGM Racing Leigh Jordon said, “The VRC conducted trials with a number of jockeys in early 2019 ahead of scheduling our twilight race days to assess sun glare and other weather conditions that could affect participants to ensure that conditions were safe for racing.”

“Whilst the scheduled race times were endorsed by the Victorian Jockeys Association and Racing Victoria, it is clear that sun glare late in the day is having an impact on visibility.

“Given that the welfare and safety of our jockeys and equine athletes is paramount, the VRC and Racing Victoria have amended race times for our 16 January Summer Twilight Race Day and 29 January Resimax Group Rapid Racing, ensuring the last race on the program will run in an earlier timeslot.”

Updated race times are as follows:

Summer Race Day - 16th January 2021
 First race 1:43pm
 Last race 6:35pm
Rapid Racing - 29th January 2021
 First race 3:30pm
 Last race 6:30pm

The Flemington Presents: Summer Racing Twilight Series culminates with the second annual running of Resimax Group Rapid Racing at Flemington Racecourse on Friday 29 January. The Rapid Racing program features a short, punchy race card with all races run on the famous Flemington Racecourse straight course over distances ranging from 1000m to 1200m with 30 minute gaps between races, and is highlighted by the Jockeys Challenge, a competition that will see the top fourteen riders in Victoria do battle over seven races at Flemington Racecourse.
