Racegoers enjoying twilight racing at Flemington
The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) will continue its spectacular summer program at Flemington Racecourse with Chester Manifold Stakes Day on Saturday 9 January.
The Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) is the highlight on a nine-race twilight card, with racegoers able to soak up the action under the sunshine on the front lawn or inside one of Flemington’s fabulous dining venues.
Named in honour of former VRC Chairman Sir Chester Manifold the feature race will see last-start Flemington winners Vassilator and Riding the Wave return to racing Headquarters in search of black-type success.
Chester Manifold Stakes Day has been reinvigorated this year, with a twilight program and more outdoor spaces for guests including the new picnic lawn and an open-air cinema for all ages.
The Club can host up to 5000 patrons, with VRC members able to enjoy a sitting at one of the Club Stand dining venues, or opt for a more casual dining experience at one of the many impressive Club Stand bars.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said Chester Manifold Stakes Day was sure to prove popular with racegoers.
“With gates opening at 1:05pm, guests can get their morning activities complete before heading to Flemington Racecourse to indulge in great racing, food and live music,” Mr Rosich said.
“Twilight racing is designed to maximise the brilliant facilities at Australia’s premier racecourse and with sunshine on the radar for Saturday it offers the perfect setting to catch up with friends and family.”
“New Year’s Day Race Day was sold out so I encourage anyone wanting to attend to purchase their tickets soon.”
Members can still buy into members-only areas via the VRC Customer Service team and any member can bring a guest if they are annual guest card holders or on racing rewards tickets.
General admission racegoers can purchase tickets to front lawn picnic tables or Hill Stand reserved seats via Ticketek with prices starting at $12 per person. Tickets must be pre-purchased.
Owners will be able to enjoy the hospitality in Saintly Place while cheering on their horses from the venue, located in front of the winning post. Owners must register once acceptances are finalised today and will be notified of the outcome tomorrow.
Flemington has been the scene for some impressive juvenile victories in recent weeks and Saturday’s program will again kick off with a two-year-old race. The Summer Twilight Series Plate (1000m) features debutants from leading Flemington stables such as Danny O’Brien and James Cummings. Later in the day the Seppelt Salinger Plate (1800m) will see Matt Cumani’s undefeated filly Tycoon Bec try and add another win to her record for owners that include AFL legend Chris Judd.
Gates open at 1:05pm with Race 1 at 2:05pm and the last race at 7:05pm.
A digital race book will be available here and VRC members, owners and all racing fans are encouraged to follow the race day via the VRC social media platforms using our official hashtag #Flemington on social media and via Racing.com, RSN and Sky Racing.
