The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is thrilled to announce that it has been given the green light by the Victorian Government to host up to 5000 patrons from Christmas Race Day this Saturday 19 December and all through summer and beyond.
For the first time since March general admission racegoers will return to the Flemington lawns, while VRC members will have greater options to experience the day from The Club Stand and popular venues such as The Atrium and The Forum will reopen.
The Chairman’s Club will be open and 50 owners per race will no longer have time restrictions and can stay to enjoy the entire race day from Saintly Place.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said the club was delighted to be able to welcome more people back to Australia’s premier racecourse for the exciting summer of action at Flemington including Christmas Race Day.
“We can’t wait to see thousands of people through the gates on Saturday to enjoy Flemington’s famous hospitality and quality summer racing,” Mr Rosich said.
“The VRC has put a lot of time and effort into preparing for increased capacity and ensuring we could host up to 5000 guests in a COVID-safe environment, while still maintaining the fantastic race day experience we are renowned for.
“We like to think this is an early Christmas present for many, and we hope our members and guests relish the opportunity to celebrate a return to some normalcy at Headquarters.”
Flemington Racecourse will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland for the day, with roving Christmas carollers, a special visit from Santa and Christmas-themed cocktails.
With the increased capacity, all VRC members who entered the ballot, which is now closed, will be able to return to the track this Saturday. Members who did not enter the ballot can still buy into members areas via the VRC Customer Service team and any member can now bring a guest if they are annual guest card holders or on racing rewards tickets.
General admission racegoers can purchase tickets to enjoy front lawn picnic tables or Hill Stand reserved seats via Ticketek from Thursday with prices starting at $12 per person. Tickets must be pre-purchased.
Owners must register once acceptances are finalised today and will be notified of the outcome tomorrow.
Christmas Race Day is the last of 25 race days held at Flemington Racecourse this year, with fifteen of those held behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Saturday’s program will feature races ranging from distances of 1000m to 2600m including the Lexus Holiday Plate over 1200m, which will see unbeaten filly Written Miss tackle the Flemington straight for the first time.
Owned by Kennedy Racing, the racing arm of one of the VRC’s major partners Kennedy, the flashy filly is one of many highlights on a card that also includes the Seppelt Salinger Handicap (2600m) where the stayers will warm up for a possible tilt at the Listed Bagot Handicap at Flemington on New Year’s Day Race Day on Friday 1 January.
Gates open at 11:55am with Race 1 at 12:55pm.
A digital race book will be available at Flemington.com.au and VRC members, owners and all racing fans are encouraged to follow the race day via the VRC social media platforms using our official hashtag #Flemington on social media and via Racing.com, RSN and Sky Racing.
