Personal wins Kennedy Oaks for Lindsay Park

Cousins Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig have scored their first Group 1 win together as training partners after Damien Oliver guided Personal to victory in the $1 million VRC Kennedy Oaks (2500m) on Thursday.

The original partnership of Hayes, Hayes and Dabernig was restructured at the start of the season with the departure of principal David Hayes to Hong Kong, and after some close calls in G1s in recent weeks, Personal delivered in the third-last Victorian elite-level race of the spring.

It was Oliver's sixth victory in the staying classic for fillies and his 122nd G1 win overall.

"It's a huge thrill and I know Dad back in Hong Kong will be very excited," Hayes Jnr said.

"We've been close with seconds in the Thousand Guineas and Caulfield Guineas, so this is a terrific result."

Personal, who is owned by Coolmore, outstayed Salto Angel and hot favourite Montefilia in a thrilling finish.
