Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Exceedance will return to racing over that exact same course after he was confirmed for a first-up tilt at Saturday's $1.25 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.
The valuable G1-winning colt had also been entered to race in the G1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on Saturday, but connections opted to keep him for the Newmarket in Melbourne, where he has been doing much of his training.
Exceedance, who is to be ridden by Dwayne Dunn, has 12 rivals at Flemington, while the Canterbury Stakes had just seven final acceptors.
Weights for the Newmarket were lifted one kilogram to achieve a 57kg topweight - Gytrash - after the original topweight Nature Strip dropped out of the race in favour of the Challenge Stakes in Sydney on Saturday over 1000m.
The 13-strong Newmarket field contains four other three-year-olds: Bivouac, Banquo and fillies Loving Gaby and Libertini.
The second feature race at Flemington on Saturday - the $1.5m TAB Australian Cup - has 14 final acceptors, with last year's Lexus Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare to carry the No. 1 saddlecloth.
