Godolphin's Millions title defence on track

Godolphin are likely to defend their title in next month's $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) with Conceited, a narrow debut winner over 1100 metres at Flemington on Saturday.

Godolphin won last season's Magic Millions Classic with Exhilarates, purchased for $600,000 as a yearling.

Conceited was purchased for $625,000 - one of five Godolphin buys during the 2019 Magic Millions yearling sale.

Damian Lane guided Conceited to victory at Flemington but is unsure the son of Brazen Beau is the ideal horse for Magic Millions success.

"He's not a two-year-old type, he's going to be better next season whatever he does now," Lane said.

"It's promising to see him do these sorts of things early in his career.

"Three weeks ago when he had his first jumpout he was really green. He had blinkers in his last jumpout and that sparked him up a little bit.

"It was the first time he was really tested and it was good to see him respond.

"I wouldn't put anything past him just because how much he has improved already this prep, but I would be surprised (if he won the Magic Millions) because for mine he's more of a three-year-old type."

Conceited defeated Jabali Ridge by half a neck, the runner-up by first-season sire Jabali, who finished second in the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Mick Price, who co-trains Jabali Ridge with Mick Kent Jr, said Jabali Ridge was purchased by his owner for just $600 off the internet - more than 1000 times less than Conceited's price tag.
