The first Victorian starter sired by 2014 Blue Diamond runner-up Jabali will make his debut at Flemington on Saturday for Mick Price.
Price, who prepared Jabali to win the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) in June 2015, saddles up Jabali Ridge in a two-year-old handicap over 1100 metres.
The Caulfield-based trainer considers Jabali Ridge a 'natural two-year-old' of diminutive size that would fit inside his father's frame.
Jabali Ridge won his 650-metre Caulfield jumpout on the inside grass on December 3 when ridden by Damien Oliver in 41.08 seconds, ahead of the Robert Hickmott-trained Epic Player.
"One of the owners of Jabali has bred him on their farm at Officer and he's come in here and been a professional since he's been gelded - we've had a couple of preps with him," Price said.
"He's a short-running two-year-old that Ollie (Damien Oliver) can ride.
"He worked good this morning and we're going in on one jumpout because I've had to squeeze the trial into this race.
"I reckon he can give a bit of cheek. He's a gusty, tough little gelding and I think he'll run well."
Jabali has sired one horse to race, the Matt Boland-trained Jabalic, which has failed to beat home another horse in two Queensland starts, the latest over 1200m at Doomben on November 23.
