Ian gives Doodt, Thom Flemington first

Cult galloper Ian earned himself a crack at a Melbourne Cup Carnival fairytale with a thrilling win down the straight at Flemington on Wednesday.

The son of Toorak Toff raced handy to the speed and defied all challengers over the final 200m to defeat The Running Man by a neck, with a head away to Rich Itch in third.

It was a maiden Flemington victory for apprentice Lucinda Doodt and trainer John Thom, who confirmed Ian would be freshened up before a possible tilt at a support race on Seppelt Wines Stakes Day.

A $5000 purchase at the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, Ian has now won three of his four career starts and was desperately unlucky in his only defeat at Ballarat last start.
