Mature-age apprentice Blaike McDougall registered his fourth city win within a fortnight with a brilliant swooping ride aboard the Chris Waller-trained Carzoff at Flemington on Saturday.
The six-year-old gelding by Zoffany settled at the rear of the 10-horse field, buried on the fence.
But McDougall, 25, slipped his way through the pack when the field bunched on the home turn and moved Carzoff into the lead within 150 metres of commencing his move.
Carzoff ($6.50), with the benefit of his economical run, then fended off the persistent threat of Masculino ($4.20 favourite), with McDougall switching his whip hand over the concluding stages to preserve his long-head advantage on the line.
"It was a brilliant ride, really patient,” said Waller's Melbourne stable manager Jo Taylor.

McDougall has experienced a successful 2018/19 season, riding 104 winners (17 per cent) and 164 minor placings from 612 rides.
"I'm quite happy with how things are going, I've got a great manager at the moment, who is doing a wonderful job, with support from my family. I'm in a happy place and in a good mindset," McDougall said.
"Riding winners for Mr Waller anywhere is a big thrill.
"He's a nice horse that's been running in better races than this, a couple of years ago I came third on him at Rosehill. He is enjoying his racing, he relaxes well and will get up to a higher grade than this."
