Linda Meech won her third VRC-CRV Winter Championship Series Final (1600m) when guiding the Lindsey Smith-trained Reykjavik to victory at Flemington on Saturday.
The former Western Australian transferred to Smith's new Warrnambool base midway through his winter campaign.
His two previous Victorian runs saw him finish fifth in the Gold Topaz (1200m) at Swan Hill on June 7 and third in the final Flemington heat of the Winter Championship Series.
Reykjavik was afforded a patient ride by Meech, settling midfield on the fence before tracking Romancer into the race and driving clear inside the final 200 metres for a comfortable victory.
Reykjavik ($9) defeated Romancer ($5.50) by 2.75 lengths, with Holbien ($16) finishing third a further half-length away.
"My instructions were not to dig him (early) and let him be happy," Meech said.
"He ran his own race and everything I asked him to do, he did.
"I was pretty happy on Dean's (Yendall, aboard Romancer) back, I just wanted to be held up for a little bit longer to allow him to run out the mile but he ran it out really well."
Meech missed two months after suffering injuries from a race fall at Geelong in April. She has ridden nine winners since returning at Donald on June 22.
"I'm probably not as fit as I was three months ago but I'm still going alright," Meech quipped.
Meech's two previous Winter Championship wins were registered on the Michael O'Leary-trained Glaneuse, who succeeded in consecutive years as a $31 outsider in 2011 and 2012.
