Sebrakate dominates down straight

Sebrakate will be spelled ahead of next season’s spring carnival after winning his third race in his juvenile season.

The colt by Sebring led throughout in the $125,000 Cobcroft Support National Jockeys Trust Trophy (1200m) when resuming from a spell.

Craig Williams dictated terms aboard Sebrakate who was having his seventh start in a race that contained six first-starters.

Sebrakate ($3.20 favourite) ambled through the first 600 metres in 37.18 seconds before dashing home in 33.72 seconds to win by two lengths.

St Edward’s Crown ($7.50) closed strongly from her rearward position to finish second with Miami Bound ($7.50) a further head away in third.

“He went to the front and grabbed that race by the scruff of the neck and it was a really good win,” David Hayes said, who trains Sebrakate in partnership with Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

“He was a bit unlucky not to be placed in the Magic Millions and he got beaten a head by a (Golden) Slipper winner (Kiamichi) so that’s good form for a race like this.

“He’d get too much weight this time of year being a three-time two-year-old winner so we’ll back off him and set him for the spring,” he added.
