Sydney horseman David Pfieffer is daring to dream with speedy mare I Am Excited after her deserved win in Saturday's Group 2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington.
The daughter of Snitzel reeled off a sizzling 22.62-second final 400m to overhaul Sarah Zschoke's unheralded five-year-old Eduardo and Bons Away in the final 50m of the race.
The win followed eye-catching performances in the G3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and the G3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) and Pfeiffer will now target the G3 Begonia Belle Stakes (1100m) on Derby Day.
And should she win again, the Warwick Farm trainer isn't ruling out a tilt at the Group 1 VRC Classic (1200m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
"It's good to get a win, it's on the big stage so it's exciting," Pfieffer said.
"From here, she'll go the Begonia Belle (Stakes) on Derby Day and, she's won a Group 2 today, if she can win again next start it might not be a dumb idea to have a throw at the stumps (in the VRC Sprint Classic).
"You don't know how long these Everest horses are going to last, they've all got their grand final next weekend."
The victory gave jockey Kerrin McEvoy a feature race double after his earlier victory aboard Eckstein in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m).
