No Cups penalty for Amelie's Star

Amelie's Star has escaped a Cups penalty after winning Saturday's The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington.

The Darren Weir-trained mare is aiming to become the third winner of The Bart Cummings to win the Emirates Melbourne Cup since 2000 following the feats of Brew and Almandin.

Amazingly during that time, only five horses have attempted the double after winning The Bart Cummings and not one has finished further back than fifth.

Racing Victoria's Executive General Manger - Racing, Greg Carpenter, originally allotted Amelie's Star 51kg for both the Caulfield Cup and Emirates Melbourne Cup and saw no reason to change.

"Amelie's Star will meet Almandin on the same weight terms in the Melbourne Cup as she did on Saturday (5.5kg less) and is 1.5kg worse off against Harlem," Carpenter said.

"Her Melbourne Cup weight will be 51kg, the same weight Almandin was given after he won The Bart Cummings in 2016 before going on to win the Melbourne Cup (with 52kg after weights were raised)."
