Smerdon looks for Theanswer in Spring

Robert Smerdon has an eye on next spring with Theanswermyfriend following his all-the-way victory in Saturday's $100,000 VRC Thanks Greg Miles Trophy (1400m) at Flemington.

The High Chaparral gelding was brave in defeat over the same track and distance a fortnight ago, leading his first 800 metres in 46.97 seconds only to be overrun by Mr Sneaky in the shadows of the post.

Theanswermyfriend ($1.90 favourite) led at a controlled tempo on Saturday, his first 800 metres in 47.44 before coming home in a slick 34.48 seconds en route to his win over four-and-three-quarter lengths, the overall time in 1:21.92.

Bastille ($3.60) settled behind Theanswermyfriend and battled on for second, with Wazenme ($17) a further two-and-a-quarter lengths away in third.

Theanswermyfriend will have one more run this campaign on April 1, in either the listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) or Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, before being spelled.

Smerdon suggested Theanswermyfriend could be a potential Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) candidate next season.
