Hayes win Inevitable for Tasmanians

Tasmania might have another star in Melbourne this autumn following the impressive C.S. Hayes Stakes victory of pint-sized galloper The Inevitable at Flemington on Saturday. The big stables had been dominant at the course's first Group 1 meeting for the year until unheralded rider Sigrid Carr punched home the three-year-old for Tasmanian trainer and long-time friend Scott Brunton in the lead-up race to next month's $1 million Australian Guineas. Brunton

All-Star play for Amphitrite

Group 1-winning filly Amphitrite has two chances to land a spot in next month's $5 million All-Star Mile but she might only need the first opportunity following her super first-up win in the Vanity Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. Having her first run for the Lindsay Park stable after being transferred from Darren Weir's yard, the Thousand Guineas winner of last spring showed great acceleration to put the race away inside the 200-metre mark. On the line, the $3.90

Microphone amplifies stable strength

He might not yet be viewed as being among the stable's elite youngsters, but Godolphin's Exceed And Excel colt Microphone has earned a shot at the Sydney riches after taking his game to a new level in Saturday's Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington. Microphone broke a drought for Godolphin just last month when he won the stable's first juvenile race in Melbourne since 2016 and then on Saturday he burned the turf at Flemington to record a sizzling time. Microphone ran 1:02.83

Schillaci-free zone has Lloyd optimistic

Jedastar is facing one of racing's most daunting tasks this Saturday, but her trainer Lloyd Kennewell remains confident in his decision to pit the two-year-old filly against some of Australia's best sprinters in the Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington. The daughter of I Am Invincible will become just the second filly to contest the race since 1981, and first since Clever Zoe in 1993, when she steps out under 44kg in the 1000-metre weight-for-age event. Clever
