Stable sweet on Somals
Simon Zahra is bullish that Somals can continue her meteoric rise through the ranks with a home-track win in Saturday's December Twilight Handicap (1400m) at Flemington. The daughter of Helmet won her first two starts before finishing fourth behind Rubsaki at The Valley last week. Zahra said it had always been the plan to step Somals out to 1400m and, despite the wide draw, he remains confident about her chances of another metropolitan win. "She's

Cameron Bags a bargain
Japanese horses are the constant talk of the racing world following more astonishing Group 1 results in Australia and Hong Kong recently. Those results further reinforced the decision made earlier this year by Flemington trainer Scott Cameron to gamble $3500 on a lightly raced Japanese-bred five-year-old by a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner. He

Poy hopes Hawkes 'luck' continues
Melbourne's leading apprentice Michael Poy will attempt to enhance his already strong record with Hawkes Racing aboard Notio at Flemington on Saturday. In 15 rides for Hawkes Racing in Melbourne, the 20-year-old has landed five winners, three seconds and a third, and a $10 win bet on each of the 15 would have returned a $136 profit. "I've had a bit of luck for the stable," Poy said with a smile. Their

Less hype, more hope for Saturday
Born with a big reputation to live up to, More Sundays has, thus far, fallen well short. The four-year-old entire is the second foal of eight-time Group 1 winner More Joyous, a winner of 21 races between 1100 and 2000 metres. More Sundays, unplaced in four-consecutive metropolitan starts, was searching for a confidence-boosting win at Pakenham last month and got it - albeit only half. More

Vic first for Jabali progeny at Flemington
The first Victorian starter sired by 2014 Blue Diamond runner-up Jabali will make his debut at Flemington on Saturday for Mick Price. Price, who prepared Jabali to win the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) in June 2015, saddles up Jabali Ridge in a two-year-old handicap over 1100 metres. The Caulfield-based trainer considers Jabali Ridge a 'natural two-year-old' of diminutive size that would fit inside his father's frame. Jabali

Hickmott resigned to losing Talenti
Robert Hickmott and Damien Oliver will combine with two of the most promising horses set to race at Flemington on Saturday, with one destined to be exported to Hong Kong and the other no chance. Bumper Blast runs in a Benchmark 84 handicap over 1400 metres while Talenti also races at that handicap level over 1800m. Talenti
