ANZAC Day Race Day creative

Apr 25, 2021

Gates open 12pm • First race 1pm • Last race 5:05pm

Join us for a day of commemoration and celebration.

Honouring our most hallowed traditions, the ANZAC Day Race Day returns to both acknowledge and celebrate the men and women who have served to keep Australia safe. We also commemorate the important role that Australian horses have contributed in wartime.

We mark the 60th year since the VRC first hosted this race day, and our annual ANZAC Day ceremony will give racegoers a chance to pay their respects. This includes the laying of the wreath, the reading of the ode, the last post, a minute silence, and the Moonee Valley Brass Band performing the Rouse.

To complement our ANZAC Day ceremony, we've planned some wonderful activities to commemorate this day, including the traditional and historic Two-up game, heritage displays, and plenty of family-friendly yesteryear games and activities. As always, there will be bounteous food and drink options, the ANZAC Day AFL games broadcast on course, plus live music throughout the day.

The eight-race program is highlighted by the running of the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m), the classic staying test for three year olds which will be run for the 164th time in 2021. Supporting this time-honoured race is the Listed ANZAC Day Stakes (1400m) for two-year-olds, as well with an open quality handicap (2600m), which along with the VRC St Leger, offers ballot-exemption for the 2021 Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes.

The excitement of the races will be matched by charity and goodwill extended to our community, and profits for the day will go to the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund on behalf of the Victoria Racing Club. There will also be various opportunities for racegoers to donate to the ANZAC Appeal.

If you are tuning in from home, catch all the action live from the track via our broadcast partners:, RSN and TAB.

Based on government advice overnight, the VRC regret to advise that the ANZAC Appeal Pin Sellers will no longer be on course today for ANZAC Day Race Day.

Please show your support for our current and former serving men and women of the Australian Defence Force by donating online at

Every donation makes a difference to a veteran and their family in times of need.
