First race 12:05pm • Last race 5:05pm
A new season of racing and the lead into spring.
Season Premiere Race Day at Flemington Racecourse features the first Group race of the Melbourne racing season. The nine-race card boasts The Group 3 Aurie's Star Handicap, which is renowned as a starting point for the stars of the spring.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, this meeting will be conducted without spectators. However, you can follow all the action via one of our broadcast partners: Racing.com and RSN.
The Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap remembers one of the great horses to have raced at Flemington and is an important race on the Victorian Racing Calendar. It was the race that the great Bart Cummings would use to kick off a number of his stayers heading into a Melbourne Cup preparation.
Apprentice jockey Tayla Childs is following in the footsteps of her father, champion jockey Greg Childs.
The Flemington wind tracker will provide real-time wind speed and direction at four points across the track prior to each race day. The Flemington wind tracker is the first of its kind and has been developed in conjunction with the team at Sports Data and some of Victoria’s leading jockeys.
Aurie’s Star was a Group 1 Newmarket Handicap winner and a former six furlong (1200 metre) track record holder at Flemington.
