The Melbourne Cup Carnival shifts gear with what is arguably the most outstanding day of racing on the Australasian calendar: AAMI Victoria Derby Day. The feature race of the day, the Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby, boasts impressive prize money of over $1 million.

About AAMI Victoria Derby Day

Considered by many to be the most prestigious day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, AAMI Victoria Derby Day embodies a world of glamour and sophistication – only to be matched by an impressive day of all black type races.

All the action and excitement starts with high racing stakes with four races at the elite Group 1 level. The feature race of the day is the Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby, the time-honoured classic staying test for three-year-olds which has been won in the past by the greats of the sport, including Poseidon, Tulloch, Mahogany, Efficient, and the immortal Phar Lap. Supporting this great race is the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes which will see the three-year-olds burn up the turf over 1200m, the Group 1 Myer Classic for fillies and mares over 1600m, the newly christened and super competitive Group 1 Longines Mile under handicap conditions, and providing a note of intrigue, the Group 3 Lexus Stakes marks the last opportunity for horses to win their way into the final field for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The fashion stakes are equally high with the start of the Myer Fashions on the Field competition for women and men. This is the day for classic elegance, and sets the pace for the entire week.

As the curtain raiser of this unrivalled week, AAMI Victoria Derby Day is abuzz with anticipation for what Flemington has in store for the week ahead.

The official flower for AAMI Victoria Derby Day is the cornflower and can be purchased from flower sellers near the entrances, upon arrival to Flemington.

*Ticketing and Dining sale date to be announced*
