The Birdcage - VRC Members Only
VRC Members and their guests are invited to take part in the fascinating theatre of The Birdcage enclosure during this year's Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Whilst The Birdcage is a picturesque area adjacent to the stalls, which will house the race winners of this year's Carnival, this world famous enclosure is more often known for being an international celebrity hub, filled with chic entertaining marquee facilities such as The Hedges and The Chalets.
The Hedges
For the 2008 Melbourne Cup Carnival, The Hedges design is centred on Vladimir Tretchikoff. One of the most commercially successful artists of all time - his painting Chinese Girl (popularly known as "The Green Lady") is one of the best selling art prints ever. The reproductions were so popular that it was said Tretchikoff was second only to Picasso in his popularity.
Your marquee will include a reproduction of one Tretchikoff artwork and will then be furnished & styled accordingly, with a slight oriental feel. Included within each facility is a covered outdoor area, a central bar for enjoying the premium beverages included with the package, or grazing on the delicious food items on offer throughout the afternoon.
For the first time in 2008, The Hedges will include a reverse cycle heating and cooling system.

The Chalets
Enjoy the 2008 Melbourne Cup Carnival in the comfort and style of your own private marquee. The Chalets are fully furnished, decorated and event managed. They combine extravagance and luxury with the thrilling atmosphere found in The Birdcage, the Carnival’s renowned celebrity hub. These marquees feature a private undercover outdoor entertaining area and are each unique in design to cater for the varied nature of Birdcage clientele.
The Chalets includes:

- Sparkling wine and savouries on arrival
- Substantial 'easy to eat' cocktail food served throughout the day
- A full range of quality beverages

Pedestrian Passes
The Hedges and The Chalets prices do not include Pedestrian Passes and Site holders may purchase a maximum of TBA Pedestrian Passes for each day of their booking. Pedestrian Passes will not be required for Full, Life & Provisional Member Card holders.
Please Note: Bookings for The Hedges and The Chalets are subject to availability. The Hedges and The Chalets will be located in The Birdcage Enclosure. Two Members are required to apply for one (1) of The Hedges and The Chalets on each and/or any combination of days during the 2008 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
